Per The Artist: “In middle school Travie McCoy offered me a different blueprint. His lyrics showed me the radical freedom of being human. He showed me the dynamism of hip-hop. He taught me that 'cool' is not about detachment, it is about the audacity to be transparent. His lyrics are a huge part of why I find catharsis in vulnerability and introspection. It had been a while since I’d listened to GCH and the only reason I can think of is that maybe I’ve been too consumed, living at such a fast pace, keeping up with all of the newness. I’ve forgotten to appreciate what already is. For some reason (fate most likely), I was up late, listening to Gym Class Heroes when I realized the kinship between both tracks...II think the song was ‘Kid Nothing Boy vs. The Echo Factor'. I ended up letting their whole catalogue run that night. I felt 13 again I’m so grateful for those guys.
